Goodbye Norway, hello Oxygéne !

Next stop of my Scandinavian route was first off Norway – it lies just an hour north of Swedish Göteborg, in the city of Lysekil. That’s where first of the Oxygéne’s network dive centre was opened – Oxygéne Lysekil. Arriving late in the afternoon, past the closing time, in front of the dive centre I was met by Johan – captain of their dive boat called Fourth Element, who also owns and lives on a very pretty yacht (yes, I’m so into this stuff) moored right in front of the centre. He lives there with Carro and Flexz – also of Oxygéne’s staff – and I stayed over with them, happy to be sleeping again on the boat!

Bosses of Oxygéne Lysekil are a couple – Daniel and Susanne. With the rest of the staff, they all together run this operation very smooth – during my stay I couldn’t even find a bit to help out with! When diving with them, you have lockers to use, large drying areas, a rinse tank into which you just jump fully geared after the dive – all so nice and easy. Fourth Element leaves from just in front of dive centre, and few minutes’ rides take you to a number of dive sites in the entrance of Gullman fjord. Likewise, few steps off the centre lies Släggö – apparently, the most frequented dive site in Sweden! It’s a large rock just off the coast, that together with it forms a nice, slowly deepening bay. It has even a training platform at 30 meters’ depth! (all covered with crabs)

Last day of my stay in Lysekil, from Göteborg arrived Delia Ni Chiobhain (EU Scholar 2006/2007), and her partner Johan Enquist, co-owner of Oxygéne International – he was a person who has arranged my visit in Lysekil. We all three could get yet one dive together on Släggo, and then I stayed over with them for two nights Göteborg – a chance to unwind a bit before heading further.
