After this sharky month, I spend the last 3 weeks at the TDI/SDI/ERDI headquarter (HQ) located in Jensen beach, Florida in order to follow a SDI open water scuba instructor development course (IDC).
I choose to do my instructor course with SDI/TDI/ERDI after Mark Powell, technical diver instructor and a part of TDI’s advisory panel, introduced me to two really nice young divers: Jon and Lauren Kieran. They are incredibly passionate instructor trainers, cave and technical divers both working at the TDI/SDI/ERDI headquarters. They convinced me to do an IDC with them. After exchanging a couple of emails we first met at the DEMA show in Orlando and they invited me to the SDI/TDI/ERDI HQ.
One of my favourite parts of the IDC was to assist a open water class. Working with my first real students and and share my passion was really rewarding. I realised that teaching requires a different mindset, a lot of patience and determination but being part of the excitement for new divers was an amazing feeling. I definitely want to keep on teaching in the future.
Beside working on my IDC I got the chance to have small workshops with each team member. It gave me a great overview of how the agency is organised. It was a lot of fun. I helped to register new members, printed certifications cards and helped with shipping materials. I also had a presentation from the marketing team and even learned about programming the website! It was really nice to work with such enthusiastic people.
